Biography
Tanz der Vampire is a musical with music composed by Jim Steinman, lyrics and book by Michael Kunze and direction by Roman Polanski.
It opened in Vienna, Austria, in 1997. In 1998 it earned 4 IMAGE (International Music Award Germany) awards for its Book, Score, Best Actor (Steve Barton) and Best Musical. Subsequently it has played in Stuttgart and Hamburg, Germany and Warsaw, Poland (where it's still playing). There was also an English version with music and lyrics by Steinman that opened on Broadway in the Fall of 2002, but it closed after only a few months of playing and is regarded as one of the big fiascos on Broadway.
The musical is based on Roman Polanski's movie from 1962, The Fearless Vampire Killers.
